Stay Golden | Pt. 1

Be Golden thrived in its glitter-fied debut last month! Bloomington, Indiana hosted the first annual Be Golden Conference, challenging individuals to lead unapologetically authentic lives. This year’s conference was a multi-day experience filled with meetups, workshops and keynote speakers set to inspire and empower these individuals.

Thursday night of the conference kicked things off with our first workshop “Movers and Shakers” held at Wild Orchid Aerial Fitness & Dance, right off the B-Line Trail. From there, the party moved to Blueline for the Opening Night Liquid Gold Launch Party, where we popped some champagne and toasted to the beautiful events to be held the next two days. The launch party started with a panel of leading women in business that initiated empowering discussions throughout the entire weekend. As the discussion panel came to a close, American indie-folk-rock band, The Bergamot, gave a remarkable performance to set the tone for the weekend to come.

Friday Morning

Friday was a beautiful early morning beginning with some soulful yoga led by Erin Thomas of Vibe Yoga. Friday consisted of many workshops all designed to allow conference goers to figure out how to take over their own lives and strive to be their best selves. And not a seat was left open in Sasha Heinz’s powerful discussion on how to “Overcome your hidden resistance to change.”

Breakfast with keynote speaker Elliott Sailors and lunch with keynote speaker Luvvie Ajayi allowed Be Golden conference goers to share in a normal day-to-day experience with some very inspiring young women. Both women allowed conference goers to share a little about their lives, why they were attending the conference and what they hoped to gain from Be Golden. Be Goldeners were in awe of the keynote guests as they shared their stories and advice.

Empowering Young Women to Open Up

As the workshops and meet-ups came to an end, guests filed into the Buskirk-Chumley Theater for the keynote presenters. Luvvie Ajayi, Susan Hyatt, Elliott Sailors and Emily Schromm lit up the stage with their bright personalities, inspiring stories, and empowering advice. Each speaker reached the audience on a personal level, leaving behind a little wisdom and a whole lot of love.

Keynote speaker Susan Hyatt gave a brilliant speech set to inspire young women to stand up and be strong and to not be afraid to make a scene.

“I’ve been the friend. I’ve been the bystander. So I set out on a mission to make a scene.”  – Susan Hyatt

Following Susan Hyatt, we welcomed Emily Schromm to the stage. Emily gave an inspiring story about her life and how she managed to get to where she is today. “Tell yourself… you are enough,” Schromm advised the audience.

As the evening went on Elliott Sailors delivered an empowering speech about why individuals should be able to be themselves. In addition, she included advice on how individuals alike can create a safe environment for people setting out to be unapologetically authentic.

Luvvie Ajayi wrapped up the evening as our last keynote speaker. Every face in the house was lit up with a smile listening to Luvvie share her story. She inspired and advised as audience members asked questions and listened to her answer from her own experiences in life. We’ve got to start trusting ourselves more often,” Luvvie concluded.

Finishing the Weekend STRONG

Saturday conference goers met bright and early on the B-Line Trail for the 5K Gold Rush Walk/Run. This was a refreshing way to kick off such a beautiful day in downtown Bloomington. From there guests strolled across town stopping into as many meet-ups as possible.

At lunchtime people carpooled over to Girls Inc. to donate their time to helping the amazing organization. Girls Inc. is a nonprofit organization that inspired girls to be strong, smart, and bold. Among the volunteers was Elliott Sailors, who personally advocates for the organization even outside of the conference weekend.  Volunteers helped paint bookshelves at Girls Inc., in order to brighten up the facility for the kids. The volunteer experience was truly humbling, and guests had a blast together while doing so.

The weekend was filled with positivity, enthusiasm and a desirability among guests to channel their inner GOLD. At the end of the evening, guests attended the Solid Gold After Party where DJ Maddog set the tone for the late night with an amazing set. The party wrapped up the day with guests reflecting on their weekend and dancing into the new week to come.

Thank you to all who participated in Be Golden this year. The conference was a success and we could not be any more proud of the turn-out. The inner challenge to Be Golden does not stop here! Continue to be true to yourself and find that inner gold each and every day, and do not be afraid to be who you are.

Be You. Be Golden!
